INFOCUS PHOTO EXHIBITION
REVIEWER – JACEK MALEC
Jacek Malec graduated in Art History, Museology and Curatorial Studies from the University of Wroclaw in Poland and has over 25 years of experience in the arts and culture sector, having previously held roles as Director/Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art Calgary/MOCA Calgary (formerly the Triangle Gallery of Visual Arts) and the Chief Curator at the Art Forum Gallery.
Jacek is a well-known art historian, critic, and lecturer with extensive international curatorial experience in Canadian and international modern and contemporary visual/new media arts, architecture and design with a track record of scholarly researched publications and exhibition projects, including creation of International Art Exchange Program while at the Triangle Gallery and MOCA Calgary. Jacek Malec is a member of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA) – Canadian Chapter and a past Vice President of that international arts organization. Since 2016, he has been working as the Executive Director/Chief Curator of the Harcourt House Artist Run Centre in Edmonton.
In September 2019, he organized and curated a seminal exhibition “Edmonton and the Bauhaus” at Harcourt House Artist Run Centre, the only gallery celebration in Canada of the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus School of Design, one of the most influential movements in modern design history.
REVIEWER – CHRIS W. CARSON
Chris W. Carson – With undergraduate studies completed at the University of Alberta and a M.F.A. in painting from the University of British Columbia, Chris W. Carson is both professional visual artist and arts administrator.
His art career includes exhibitions at public, artist-run and commercial galleries throughout Alberta. As an administrator, Carson worked for commercial and public art galleries, a professional arts organization and two provincial arts service organizations.
Since August 2010, Chris W. Carson is the Executive Director of CARFAC Alberta.
REVIEWER – ALEXIS MARIE CHUTE
Alexis Marie Chute is an award-winning photographer, artist, author, filmmaker, and art curator. She was named an “Emerging Canadian Photographer” by PhotoLife Magazine, and was distinguished with the John Poole Award for the Promotion of the Arts for her work with InFocus Photo Exhibit. She is the author of the multi-award-winning bestselling memoir Expecting Sunshine: A Journey of Grief, Healing and Pregnancy After Loss (2017, She Writes Press), with its accompanying documentary film, which has been screened internationally. She is also the author of the fantasy series, The 8th Island Trilogy, including Above the Star, Below the Moon, and Inside the Sun. She has her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art and Design and her Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. REVIEWER – CATHY COLUMBERG
Cathy Columberg has had a passion for photography from a very young age. She received her first Nikon camera and lenses as a gift from her parents for her 18th birthday. She thinks this was only so her dad could get his camera back. She has been in the photography business her entire life. At one time she owned her own high volume photography, trophy, and sportswear business for 14 years, before selling it to a trophy and sportswear company here in Edmonton. In 2001, she joined the team at Technicare as a branch manager, and in 2002 became a shareholder in 2016 became the GM. When she is not at work she enjoys spending time out at the lake, golfing, traveling and taking her Nikon camera everywhere she goes.
